CLASSES
Something for Everyone
DRAWING
Drawing focuses on the development of observational skills and drawing techniques, employing a wide range of drawing media including charcoal, graphite, and pastels . Learners in the drawing courses will develop both technical abilities and creative responses to material and subject matter. No prior experience with drawing is required.
Students in our drawing courses will learn how to critique and receive criticism and advice from peers and the instructor. Learning to articulate artistic concepts and processes using discipline-specific vocabulary is a fundamental part of arts education. These courses are rigorous and challenging.
PAINTING
We can’t all be a modern Picasso, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give painting a shot. All of our classes focus on the process, rather than the end result of art. Here, we consider that each piece of art created is an honest masterpiece. Students in Painting will build on skills learned in Drawing and gain familiarity with various painting techniques.
POTTERY/CERAMICS
The purpose of Ceramics and Pottery is to provide each learner with a basic ceramics experience extended from his or her knowledge of design and drawing on which to build the visual thinking skills, knowledge of historical and contemporary art forms, technical approach to materials and the methods for channeling creative energies that enable a lifetime of personal artistic expression. This is for people who don't mind getting their hands dirty!
ART HISTORY
We offer a hands on approach to learning about Art from the past. By analyzing artworks from the past and looking at their details, we can rewind time and experience what a time period different from our own was like. We learn much about not only the past but what the future may hold. This course is a must for art enthusiasts and history buffs!
INDEPENDENT STUDIES
For the student who is developing a portfolio for college admissions. Independent art study is a class designed to provide students with the opportunity to engage in self directed art study. Chair approval is required.
